Sleep is for the WEAK – no I really should’ve slept

I think creating my presentation was nothing short of a fever dream. Due to the extremely large and vague prompt, I couldn’t get my brain to start this essay until very late on—as a matter of fact, I never read the instructions until the first day of Thanksgiving break. After I came up with an idea however, I ran with it, for better or worse. I will say I was inspired by reading through the children’s books we read in class (which I checked out and brought home to read to my sister and father -my mom and brother didn’t want to listen). It got me to think about other fictional books in epistolary format, like Diary of a wimpy kid. I was tempted write about how epistolary format in factor may be a bit more intriguing due to its personal aspects/relatability. However, I didn’t know where to go with that.

I ended up stumbling upon a blues clues TikTok amiss my distress and that sparked the idea. I remember the “We just got a letter” jam from the show and wondered why it got everybody so excited- why was Steve so excited that he got a letter? Sure, it was about clues and solving mysteries, but the point was he got a letter and he was elated. So, I thought about how I received notifications from the mailroom saying I got a package, or when my mother says there’s a letter for me. I all of a sudden get filled with this excitement.

I wanted to figure out why.

Putting together my presentation happened simultaneously with writing the essay. I quickly realized that the presentation was due Tuesday and I couldn’t really give a presentation without at least the outline of an essay.

Thus, that Sunday, the moment I got back to campus I was grinding out that essay and making the presentation. However, I also became sick enough to want to sleep the entire time. I was satisfied with my work on the presentation however, once I got to class on Thursday, yes Thursday because I didn’t go to school up till Wednesday I was kind of shocked. I figured that writing that entire presentation must’ve been a dream: there was information I could’ve included. I really thought I had more in. When giving the presentation I was a bit speedy.

As a whole unit, it was noted that our class seemed more comfortable in this round of presentations compared to our last one. This led to more enthusiasm, broader movements, less reliance on what was typed on the slide, more animation within peoples’ bodies, and overall more excitement about the topics presented. This made them way more enjoyable to listen too. I will say I really enjoyed Riley’s presentation about lesbian letters. The quote “throw over your man” will be in my life forever.
